Pottuvil Predesha Sabah is the prime authorization body in Pottuvil Division, Ampara District, Sri Lanka. This unit includes 40,000 populations of the three different ethinc groups: Muslim, Tamil and Sinhalese, living in harmony.
The Chairman is elected each four years directly by the people. The Pottuvil’s Pradesha Saba Body consist a chairman and other 08 active members who follows all the development activities runned by the Government, local NGOs and INGOs under Pottuvil Divisional Secretariat.
Particularly, after the Tsunami, many INGOs come to help to affected people, implementing first-aid interventions, basic recover, reconstruction and livelihood programmes.
ICEI (Institute for International Economic Cooperation) started to work in Pottuvil, in the livelihood sector since 2005.
As Arugambay is one of the tremendous destinations in the world for tourism, ICEI started a two years community based tourism progarmme for Arugambay in partnership with Pottuvil Predesha Sabah.
The Pradesha Sabah considers this project a new innovative livelihood programme with added value rather than other activities in this area. ICEI tourism programme supported specially for poor communities affected by tsumani,and therefor ensuring an income generation through the community based tourism activities.
Pottuvil Pradesha Sabah is very happy to hang his hand with all INGOs and welcome all the people who want to help to this poor villagers to develop their life condition in a sustainable and efficient way.
